filter yikes_mc_user_already_subscribed or similar

i’ve noticed on an old readme.txt file (5.4.3) that the plugin had a yikes_mc_user_already_subscribed filter:

**Filter Name:**
'yikes_mc_user_already_subscribed'
**Accepted Parameters:**
'$errorMessage' , '$update_user_link' and '$email'
**Parameter Info:**
'$errorMessage' = the error message returned by the MailChimp API. By Default : "email@domain.com is already subscribed to the list."'
'$update_user_link = the link that will re-submit the form to update the current users info. Default link text : "Update My Info"'
'$email' = the email address provided in the Email field

has it been removed? is there a replacement for it? or a workaround to check if the submitted email address has already subscribed?

i could really do with something like that.

Hi,

There is no filter to check if a subscriber already exists on a given mailing list. That filter was a way to alter the returned message, when a user attempted to re-sign up for a list.

You can alter the custom message returned, using the provided settings on the edit form page:

There is no longer a way to filter it on a per page basis, only a way to set it globally on a per form basis.

hi Evan,
thanks for the reply, but i wasn’t after altering the message.
i could really use the old filter, or a substitute/workaround to check if a user is attempting to re-sign up for a list and get at his/her email.

If a user re-signs up for a given list that they are already assigned to – they are required to send themselves an email before they can update any of their information (if update existing subscriber is toggled on). If it’s not, then they just receive an error that they are already subscribed to the given list.

The filter itself is used to filter a string of text. The filter doesn’t actually trigger anything.

You may be able to check if a subscriber already exists using the yikes-mailchimp-after-submission action hook, but I have not tested that out.

When I push out the next release, I can build in a new action inside of the ‘214’ response code (User already subscribed).

Ideally, that action ( do_action( 'yikes_mailchimp_subscriber_exists' ); – or something similar ) will fire off when an existing user attempts to re-subscribe to a given list. It will have to be something that I test thoroughly to ensure that it’s working before releasing it publicly.
