• Five or six of my sites are down. Just a blank page and if I login, it is also blank.

I gave it a few days t generate logs. Most of the errors are containing the unexpected < on line 2 in index.php or line 3. I haven’t touched the files and, unfortunately, am looking at the pages on iPad, not my Windows machine. I can’t view source to see what was added.

[Thu Mar 24 03:51:14 2016] [error] [client 138.201.46.148] PHP Parse error: syntax error, unexpected ‘<‘ in /mnt/glusterfs/apache/hosting-dir/pppppp/user_dir/xxxxxxxxxxxxxx.com/wp-content/themes/wp-portaltheme-child/header.php on line 2

One site has $end errors. Some have errors like an * in a plugin. I plan to FTP in and change the plugin name while I check for updates or alternatives.

The unexpected < in so many sites has me wondering just what’s going on. Dates on files haven’t changed so no one logged in and changed them it appears. One site sent me email about a broken link but the page won’t load. The name of the page isn’t one I’d use and it refers to post 320 when I have/had about 25 posts at most.

I’m a little leery of visiting those sites in Windows in case it loads a virus, hack, exploit, etc. but I kind of have to, to check if it is specific to iOS, if I was hacked, etc. I figure to FTP in first, check the files showing errors, then moving forward.

your active theme “wp-portaltheme-child” seems to be the error.

Repair/replace the /wp-content/themes/wp-portaltheme-child/header.php file using FTP , or your web-host’s cPanel or whatever file management application your host provides (no Dashboard access required).

That’s one theme only’ but why did that error start appearing after a year? Why does every site have that error, or half my sites rather?

I asked my host why the sites are down but still no answer
