• This isn’t really what I expected when Shopify releases their WP plugin. Rather than embedding products via shortcode, perhaps a better idea would have a build in interface that automatically sets product pages? 🙂

Thank you for the feedback. Many merchants already create their own product pages in WordPress with the buy button only.

    For example

We likely won’t automatically “set” product pages, we received a lot of feedback from merchants that it creates more complexity than just managing it yourself.

Thanks, but what happens if and when the user decides to switch from Shopify to something else or if the plugin stops working or have a fatal error? He would be left with a lot of shortcode 🙁

Your storefront is not dependent on the plugin, it is plugged into Shopify. I don’t want to say we never have issues but our uptime is something we take pride in 🙂

It is just a single snippet that wouldn’t render, I wouldn’t really say it would be a lot of code left over. And if you choose to built your product pages yourself it would be easy to remove.

Either way, I hope you choose the right solution for you and give us a chance in the future.

You’re left with lot’s of shortcodes even when you just change WordPress theme. I think short-code idea is much better.

    That’s called, shortcode hell 🙂

Read the article by Chris Lema and you’ll understand why shortcodes are bad. Rather, perhaps a better integration is called for. Otherwise, if you have tons of products, you’ll need to delete all these shortcodes if you’re switching to another ecommerce provider.

I wrote about the Divi shortcode problem here:
    https://www.webmatros.com/divi-elegant-themes-review
    – so yes, I agree it’s a huge problem.

However, there’s a large span between the severe shortcode mess a theme like Divi leaves behind upon deactivation vs a few shortcodes from a plugin like this one from Shopify.

That said, in general, I don’t find shortcodes very elegant. They were cool back in the days – but nowadays most people prefer a GUI. Much user-friendlier.

Shortcodes are stable and reliable though.

Just wanted to chime in, while I was researching this plugin.
