• Resolved LogoLogics

    Hello,

I use Wordfence and Falcon in multiple sites and just love it, falcon really speeds up things.

However, lately I notice in one of the sites, that clearing the cache has no pages to clear and it does no longer speed up the site.

Any ideas why this might happen? I have no other caching plugin going on, it is a https but it was before and falcon worked just fine?

This is the site where it is happening: https://wordpress-online-cursus.nl/

    Thanks,
    Annie

  • Hi,

Are there any differences in your hosting accounts? Different versions of Apache maybe? Also, try checking one of the sites that is working’s .htaccess file and compare it to the site with the issue. Any differences?

    Thanks,

    Hi Brian,

I did an upgrade in hosting but the sites that do well with the falcon engine ar on that same hosting plan and server ( add on domains ).

I looked at the .htaccess file but they are the same as well.
Any other idea’s that might cause this?

    Thanks,

    Hi Annie,

Another possibility is if you have different plugins or plugin settings on the sites. Some plugins intentionally prevent caching, most often by setting a constant like “DONOTCACHEPAGE” (which Wordfence and other caching plugins watch for to prevent caching.)

Some themes might do this as well, but I don’t think I’ve seen any personally.

If the site is set to use HTTPS, you might need to enable “Allow SSL (secure HTTPS pages) to be cached” on the performance setup page.

    Hi Matt,

I did some more tests that made me think.

I had the same shop ( falcon engine active and same plugins and theme ) on another domain, and that was pretty fast 1.86 sec ) on a cheep shared hosting.

However on another domain ( better hosting package ) it was much slower about 3 seconds. However if I tested this with pingdom.com it said 0.682 sec. loading time and 99/100 performance rate!!but if I tested it on my computer and browser it took about 3 sec. to load each page??

This made me consider my own browser ( i did clear its cache numerous times ) but as soon as I used an in private session for that same shop, it was blazing fast as well!

After using it in an in private session, the falcon engine suddenly started to show cached pages again, so not sure how exactly this was possible, but for now it seems I need to ignore my own experience in my browser and keep in mind it is not actually that slow on other devices, browsers?

If you would check it yourself this is the url: http://logologics.nl/mobiele-kok-shop/

I suppose it is pretty fast at your end?

    Thanks!

    Hi Matt,

    Still having issues here…

All of the sudden another site now suddenly does no longer cache and is rather slow ( 2 to 3 sec ). This can not be just my browser, because if I check
the falcon engine cache status, I can see it is no longer caching.

Another site ( where I had the same issue for a while, now is fast again and in wordfence cache status I can see why because it is nicely caching again ( 234 files in cache there )

But the ones now having issues, even if I clear its cache in falcon engine, and deactivate wordfence and activat again, then start opening pages multiple times, it only says it cached 1 page and then it stops no matter pages are getting hit numerous times.

The plugins and setting did not change so how in the world is this possible and how to get it back to normal?

Hope someone knows a solution to this…

    Thanks,
    Annie

    Hi,

Does anybody expierence this same issue?
I have the Falcon engine in a live webshop and its pretty slow without the falcon doing its work…

Looks like sometimes it caches 1 or 2 page ( although I am hitting all pages numerous times as not logged in ) and I can not see it cache them all.

After a while even those few cahced pages are cleared again somehow.
    Please help solve this?

    Thanks,
    Annie

    Me again……..

Tried the enable the https and that seems to do the trick, both where indeed shops on https. Speed back to 1.22 ( before 2.80 ) great, love the falcon engine and Wordfence!

    Hi Annie,

Wordfence does prevent Falcon from caching if you were logged into the site previously, until you close your browser. This prevents certain browser caching issues, where a page you saw while you were logged in could be shown again after you’ve logged out. It would only happen within your browser, but not visible to other people — but it still is best to prevent that.

To test caching, we usually use a second browser where we haven’t logged into the site at all — for example, if I’m using Chrome and logged in to the site, I’ll start Firefox to see when pages are cached, and to test the speed.

Cached pages are cleared by a number of different events, detailed here — mostly dealing with changes made to posts/pages/taxonomy, or changing site settings.

Using a browser where you had previously logged in might explain the issues you were seeing, but if you still have trouble when using another browser, let us know.

    Hi Matt,

Maybe you missed my previous post, telling that it seems to be resolved by indeed checking the enable https on all pages?

I do use different browsers, one where I am always logged in ( mostly chrome ) and another ( usually firefox ) to look at the site without being logged in.
Also check in Opera, Safari, IE and mobile devices.

I also test on other computers here in the office to make sure or look at a site incognito modus.

My comliments by the way, because I purchased WP Rocket me a few days ago to see if that works better, but for now Falcon engine gives the best speed!

Thanks for you hard work and support!

    Hi Annie,

Ah ok, I mis-read that — I thought you meant you enabled HTTPS on the sites, and not just the option to cache HTTPS pages. That’s good that it’s working now though. Thanks also for the feedback!

    Another data point:

I have two websites, served by apache/mod_php as virtual hosts behind an nginx reverse proxy.

site 1 was wordfence caching without problem

site 2 was not caching at all until I enabled the “Allow SSL (secure HTTPS pages) to be cached” option.

site 1 does not have this option enabled.

both sites are accessed via http.

There is something weird going on there, although I don’t know what it might be. Just thought you’d like to know
