• When I try to upload a small .jpg to post I get the following error message…

Unable to create directory D:\Hosting\4408435\html\blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/06. Is its parent directory writable by the server?

I haven’t been able to find anything in search that relates to this message.

    I greatly appreciate any help!

  • You need to make sure that the wp-content/uploads folder on your server has writable permissions. 776 should do it i think.

Assign 755 or higher permissions (recursive) to your upload folder.

    Thank you for your replies!

When I try to set permission using Filezilla, I get

    Command: SITE CHMOD 777 /blog/wp-content/uploads
Response: 500 ‘SITE CHMOD 777 /blog/wp-content/uploads’: command not understood

This hosting is on Godaddy and is a Windows hosting site. Would that make a difference?

    Thanks again for your help!

If you are trying from Filezilla, there should be no issue. However, it is possible that your host has not assigned permissions to your FTP user.

I’m having the same issue with the “command not understood”

Using Filezilla and GoDaddy as well. Can you tell me how you resolved this?

    Thanks!
