Support » Fixing WordPress » “Almost Pretty” Permalinks on XP Pro SP3 and IIS 5.1 don’t work

  • Hi. I’ve been beating my brains out, studying every thing on the codex and the forum I can find and articles outside of it too … and, for the life of me, I can’t get “Almost Pretty” Permalinks working, i.e. something as simple as putting on the Category base: /index.php/%post_id%/postname%/ No matter what I do (including redoing the “Update Page” and refreshing IE and restarting ISS) I get 404 errors on Pages or Categories.

I even tried, out of desperation to add “category” to the Category base and “tag” to the Tag base. Didn’t help.

    What am I missing?

I know that I can’t get “Pretty” permalinks using WordPress until I get my site onto IE7 or IE8. I can live with that. But it seems to me I should be able to get at least “Almost Pretty” without having to go to outside 404 Redirectors or URL plugins. Yes/no?

    Thanks in advance.
