Just to clarify. I backed up my site and now I want to restore it to a subdirectory as a test to make sure I am doing this correctly. When I go to restore from the 2nd install of WP it shows zero backups. Is this considered a migration rather than a restore ? Migration is only in the paid version?

Added question: If I backup my Website and GoDaddy changes my servers, can I then re-install Updraftplus and restore or is a new install of Updraftplus considered a Migrate even though it is not going to a different website?

    Hi Les,

“Migration” is if you’re restoring a backup set onto a site that has a different URL (i.e. website address) from the site that it was created on. It doesn’t matter if the hosting company or underlying platform changed. In the case of a URL change, UpdraftPlus needs to modify the backup set so that it fits the destination website – the extra code that’s needed to do that modification is in the paid version.

So – it’s not intended to be an arbitrary restriction that throws up barriers. There’s genuine extra code that is needed to modify the backup set to make it work on a different site.

    David
