    Hey guys

    Hope you’re all well.

I am submitting my website to Google webmaster to let them know it’s live. In the Search Console I am getting the following error – “Your Sitemap appears to be an HTML page. Please use a supported sitemap format instead.”

I am getting pretty much the same error for most of my pages that I am running the test on.

I am trying to find sitemap options on the plugin settings but can’t find anything…

    Thanks
    Jas

Just an update – I have figured out that I have had to enable sitemap!!!

Just went to google search console, but the same error appears? Am I suppose to leave it for a while or do something else?

    Thanks
    Jas

Your XML sitemap is fine – view-source:http://www.jasdipsagu.com/sitemap.xml

I would recommend you disable the Sitemap Indexes option. You only need that if you have over 50,000 URLs on your site.

    Thanks! Really appreciate your help!

Would you know if the Bing one is working as well by any chance?

have just uploaded the bing xml to the ‘root’ – http://www.jasdipsagu.com/BingSiteAuth.xml

    Thanks

I could not tell you. All I can tell you is that the XML sitemap generated by our plugin is fine.

    Okay, great, thank you!

Keep up the great work! 😀

This: http://www.jasdipsagu.com/BingSiteAuth.xml, is not your Bing sitemap. That is a verification file you need for Bing to connect to your website. Bing offers three different option to verify your site. Uploading BingSiteAuth.xml to your root directory: http://www.jasdipsagu.com/BingSiteAuth.xml, is how Bing will see your site and verify you control the site.

Notice that is says “BingSiteAuth” which means Bing Site Authorization or Authentication. It’s simply a connection file and not a sitemap file, which Steve already indicated is working properly on your site.

Thank you Tony & Steve! Appreciate your feedback! 😀 Still pretty new to all this WordPress & Website stuff since my web designer left me in the lurch! 😮 Least I am learning new things hey! 😀

    Have an awesome day!

Learning is growing. That’s how I learned. All D.I.Y. and asking questions here in the forums and elsewhere. WordPress is about supporting others with their questions/issues. Keep up the good work! You’ll be a certified webmaster in no time!
