Hi there. We are having an issue with charitable set up. we’ve activated and already started adding our first campaign. the problem is that when we click on the “+ add a suggested amount” button nothing happens. it just scrolls to the top of the page and no fields were added. also we can add categories or tags from that page either. we can add them through the add category and add tag page, but the main issue is we have no way of adding suggested amounts. Can you help us fix this issue please.

    thanks & God bless!

  • Hi Barrett,

I saw your email about this separately but couldn’t reply yet due to some issues with our email setup. With this issue, it sounds like the Javascript is breaking, which is usually related to the theme or another plugin.

To troubleshoot this issue, first try changing the theme to one of the default themes to see if the problem goes away.

If this fails, then try disabling all plugins, then re-enable them until the problem reappears.

    Cheers,
    Eric

No worries, thanks for getting back to me Eric.

Okay, so are you saying that i can’t use this feature with my theme? It would take forever to go through our plugins one by one like that. And we’ve developed our whole site around this theme so far, so I’m not really ready to change themes. Is there a way you can give me some coding or something to place somewhere that will fix this?

    preciate it

    Hi Barrett,

No, the issue may not be related to your theme. I’m suggesting those steps so that you can identify where the problem is coming from, and then work on fixing it.

    Cheers,
    Eric

    Hi Barret,

Were you able to resolve this issue?

hey Eric, sorry I’m back. But it looks like with the latest update, yes it fixed the problem i was having earlier, but now it has made the comments section of all of my posts and anywhere we have comments activated totally disappear. Yikes! I disabled all plugins and this is the one that did it. Any fix for me as we definitely gotta have the comments section?

Oh dear, that’s nasty. I have put together a fix which will go into Charitable 1.3.2, but in the meantime, here’s a bit of code you can add to your site to re-enable comments everywhere except for the donation pages and receipt page:

    https://gist.github.com/ericnicolaas/2bd145e9d3ca7a293a0d

To add that to your site, you can copy and paste it into the functions.php file in your theme, or you can use the Code Snippets plugin.

    Eric

    Hey Eric, thanks for that.
I tried that this morning and it did not add our comments back. I accidentally added it to style.css first and then deleted it when I realized. Then I tried functions.php. When that did not work I deleted that and then deactivated the plugin again.

Now all of our images are not showing! Agh!?

Also the menu items in the header changed to numbers. I noticed that any menu items that were custom links were fine, but any that were pages had changed to a string of numbers. So I changed them all to custom links. But still. Why would this have happened?

    Can you please help?!

i wanted to update you that i found what caused our big problem and it was not your plugin or the code you gave me. πŸ™‚ phew haha. thanks again.

    (@btbogan)

but i would like to ask you, where do i put the code you sent me? you mentioned in the functions.php file. but where in that file should i put it?

thanks so much Eric. God bless!

You can add it to the end of your functions.php file, just before ?>. You might not see ?> at the end of the file, in which case you can just drop that code right at the end.

Hope that is clear. If not, try the Code Snippets plugin. It makes it much simpler and also means you can deactivate the snippet easier when Charitable fixes this problem itself.

    Cheers,
    Eric

Just a heads-up: Charitable 1.3.2 just came out and fixes this issue. Once you’ve upgraded, you should be able to safely deactivate the code snippet you added before.

    Eric

Hey Eric, I haven’t searched the whole page, but I did notice right away that after activating the newest version of Charitable, the colors of our buttons on our front page were very different. Do you know why it would have interfered with the buttons?

    Hi Barrett,

Charitable adds styling for the donate button, but shouldn’t affect other buttons. Could you send me a link to your site so I can take a look at what might be going on?

    Cheers,
    Eric
