I’ve used this plugin in combination with Document Gallery, but I just noticed that it stopped working. Both in Chrome and in Firefox the plugin tries to use the lightbox, but the browser just opens the document (PDF) ‘itself’.

    Did anything change?

  • Nothing changed but… are you using an analytics / visitor counter plugin? If so, it sounds like you activated link/click tracking. Try to exclude PDF files from being tracked or change the tracking method if that’s possible. It all depends.

Wow, I never would have thought along these lines myself. I indeed had to switch stats plugins and I started using Slimstat a while back. It has quite a few a few options and one of them is: “Track Outbound Clicks”. Your plugin works again when I turn this to “no”!

There are a few options there, but I don’t know if I can exclude PDFs. The options are:
    – ‘No callback”; “Track the event but do not invoke the callback function on links marked with one of these class names, rel attribute or whose href attribute contains one of these strings (separated by comma). Useful to prevent conflicts with lightbox and similar libraries.”
    – “Do Not Track”; “Do not track links marked with one of these class names, rel attributes or whose href attribute contains one of these strings (separated by comma).”

Can I use the second option with “.pdf”? That sounds a bit too simple.

On a sidenote, I would love it when your plugin also supported doc and docx in lightboxes.

    Thanks again for your reply.

Hah, a block above it says: “Extensions to Track”. “List all the file extensions that you want to be treated as Downloads. Please note that links pointing to external resources (i.e. PDFs on a different website) are considered Downloads and not Outbound Links (and tracked as such), if their extension matches one of the ones listed here below.”

There was PDF, doc and xls there by default. I removed them and now I can use the ‘track outbound links’ option.

Hi Roy, thanks for sharing 🙂

Hi, I’m part of the Slimstat team. Thank you for sharing!
