I tried to remove bloat from my site by running WP-Optimize. It threw up a lot of error messages which I tried to delete and now I am prevented from logging in as administrator, despite having the correct username and password, though it is still possible to view the site. It appears that BruteProtect is doing this and of course I cannot get in to deactivate it. I have enabled all cookies as suggested by the error message but this does not help. I get multiple warnings “Illegal offset type in isset or empty in /home/vccwells/public_html/wp- content/plugins/bruteprotect/bruteprotect.php on line 168” and “Cannot modify header information-headers already sent by (output started at /home/vccwells/public_html/wp-content/plugins/bruteprotect/bruteprotect.php” on lines 387 and 400 and 1228.

Please advise how to get around this. The login screen also shows two sums which have to be done to prove humanity but they don’t help.

  • Log in to your FTP account and go to /home/username/public_html/wp-content/plugins. Rename the bruteprotect folder to bruteprotect1. Then try logging in. If successful, it may be easiest to simply delete BruteProtect and then re-install it.

Also, as good security practice, you should omit your username from any errors (as I’ve done above by putting username instead of your actual username).
