When you update plugin, its whole folder is deleted, so anything you put there will be gone.
If you provide me with full translation, I can add it to plugin as a standard feature. But, if you want to use partial translate, best way is to put it into WordPress translations folder: wp-content/languages.

You should not change plugin files directly, or your changes will be lost when plugin is updated.

Again, you need to create translate file. If you make changes to plugin directly you will loose those changes when plugin is updated. I do not support modifications to plugin directly.
