What do you have set for “Default event archive ordering” under Events > Settings > Pages > Event List/Archives?
Does changing that setting change the event list output?

Sort by startdate, starttime, ascending. Scope: all events. Setting this to descending, and scope to future events, does not save. So I change the settings, save and then the settings are still the same.
If the setting isn’t saving, it could be a possible conflict caused by your theme or another plugin. To check if it is, can you test with all other plugins deactivated and while running the default WordPress theme?

This issue has spontaneously solved itself. I hate it when that happens. Thanks anyway.
