• I am having serious issues with my backend. It loads the front end with the backend URL in the bar (Page not Found) about 75% of the time (if I hit refresh enough times, it will load the backend page). It has also had problems uploading photos, saying there was an error, but if I reload the page the photos will be in my library. And now I have noticed that all my ad widgets have disappeared without my touching them (I use a third party ad service called Adthrive). Is this a host problem, glitch in the system, problem with plug-ins, my Mac having a problem, my internet connect? I don’t even know where to begin troubleshooting this. I updated Genesis when it started acting weird and it didn’t help. My Mac is up-to-date as well as my browser. Does anyone have an idea of which direction I can go to find a solution?

  • Hi, whistleandivy, & welcome to the WordPress support forum. First, please accept my apology for the delayed response. We’re all volunteers here, & sometimes life gets in the way of being able to respond to requests for help as quickly as we’d like.

As you state, this is a complex problem. If you could give us a site url so we can have a look, that would be a good start. Also, is there any way of disabling the ad service temporarily to see if that resolves the difficulty?

Any time I hear about things mysteriously disappearing, it raises the spectre of a possible site compromise, but I’m not willing to go there just yet.

Please give us the site url, let us know what plugins & theme you’re using, try disabling the ads temporarily & see if that helps, & let’s see how that goes. 1 other thing–if you have error logs available to you, either via your control panel, within your WordPress folders, or through your hosting provider, these may also provide some invaluable clues. If you have questions as to how to interpret these, go ahead & submit entries enclosed in like:

    log entry 1
    log entry 2
    log entry 3

That should be enough to get this ball rolling. Have a good rest of your weekend.
