i will try to help you to take a decision, this plugin verify if the image is used or not in all post and pages of your WordPress site (include gallery shortcode and revision if you check this options).
You have to make ONE BACKUP every time you use this plugin if you want to be sure to not destroy your WordPress site, why? because the plugin will delete and update information from the database and the your server.
The plugin have one backup system for help you to prevent this part, but you have to create the folder by the ‘create backup folder’ button and activate the backup option.
You have to test the plugin, see if the plugin work for you site, before to go crazy and begin to delete all image ‘not used’. why? because this plugin work fine with the WordPress real function, a blog, if you have others plugin, like ecommerce, gallery X, who change and use their own way, this plugin can be “dangerous” for your site. I include option like ignore sizes to help to adapt the plugin for other plugin, but this part have to be configured when you made the test.
You can give a try, again make some test, make one or more post/page with news images, see what happen with the DNUI plugin, and see if work fine; This way you will not delete any image important for you (if the plugin not work fine), activate the backup system, see if the backup system work fine, and go easy with the delete part (again do not go crazy and delete all images not used, you have to delete 3 or 5 images and verify a bit if the plugin work fine for you, after some verification you can go crazy), if not, you can use the BACKUP MADE BY OTHER PLUGIN or the backup made by this plugin (if better if you have other backup made by other plugin, because is not the main purpose of the plugin, but the backup system work fine, but because is your site, is better have two or more way to keep your site fine)
