• Our website features lots of galleries by different artists with lots of images in each. Unfortunately, something happened (still not sure what caused it), and all the gallery info was lost, and I had to re-create the galleries by importing the folders for each.

However, the wrong date info for each image is shown. If I look at the date shown in the backend of the gallery for an image, and compare it to the date shown for the creation of the file via FTP, they are totally different. Therefore, I can’t get the images to sort by date.

This really screws up the galleries. Is there any way to correct this? Even if I have to re-import the folders, I would do it, if there was something I could do to assure that NextGen picks up the correct dates.

Unfortunately sorting by image ID doesn’t help either, as those seem to be pretty random with the import.

    Any help would be appreciated.

@jamminjames – Have you tried re-importing the metadata for the images?

I did try that, and it doesn’t seem to pick up file dates. To check, I clicked on ‘metadata’ for an individual image, it only shows size.

Also, just added new images to a gallery, and they are not displaying at the top of the gallery, even though my default sorting method is by date/time, descending. I have no other sorting method picked for that page, just a shortcode for the gallery.

@jamminjames – If there is minimal metadata within the images then there will be minimal data to sort against. I would suggest insuring the images you are uploading have all of the metadata within them that you are looking for.

Do you think Smush would eliminate date metadata? Maybe that’s what happened.

@jamminjames – I’m not familiar with how “Smush” would be working but if it is modifying the images then it is entirely possible it is stripping out the metadata as a size reduction routine.
