Heart Internet Not Working with BackUpWordPress

    Hi,

    Just so you know, manual back ups were working with older versions of WordPress, and older versions of the BackWordpress, but as from today, I updated to latest WordPress, and latest BackUpWordpress, and now manual backups are not working at all.

    I am also using Heart Internet, so I fired them an email, and they said this:

    “I suspect this is due to the loopback connection prohibition we have in place that will prevent a script loading data from itself. I seem to remember that while there are workrounds for this, it is not possible to put a workround in place for a backup script due to the way it works. “

    Which is strange, because like I said, older versions of WP, and BUWP were working with manual backups.

    So surely that indicates the software has changed?

    In the UK, Heart Internet are massive, and host a lot of WP sites, so it might be worth looking into why this is not working from a coding point of view for the software developers.

    Hi Kat,

    I tried the workaround, and it simply not working.

    It was working on previous WP, and BUWP but not since updates on both, so I suspect the software/coding has changed.

    For anybody reading the thread, and trying to get backupwordpress working with Heart internet, it simply does not work anymore, when it once did.

    Once solution I have found is to use the Duplicator plug in, to create a back up, which works perfectly on Heart.

    Duplicator is a migration plug in mainly, but works just as well for manual back ups.

    I might just be muddying the waters but I investigated Heart Internet as a possible WP host for a client a few years back. Having looked at their “loopback connection prohibition”, I immediately refused to install any WP site on Heart’s servers. Frankly, I didn’t (and still don’t) think it’s worth the hassle trying to wrangle WP to work properly with their rather bizarre setup.

    The fact is, Backupwordpress worked with Heart Internet up until a month a go, and worked last week on one of my sites until I updated both wordpress and backupwebsite, so one of those two updates has stopped it working.

    Esmi has a valid point – the reason this plugin doesn’t work easily on Heart Internet is because of that loopback connection prohibition.

    My suggestion at this point is to get in touch with Heart Internet to help you with any cron issues you’re having. You can also check the cron situation by scheduling a post to be published; if that fails too, then its cron on server level. Let us know what you find.

    Scheduling posts works perfect, as I use that daily.

    Even on a cron job backupwordpress is NOT working properly.

    But like I say, it worked a few weeks ago before backupwordpress was updated.

    Actually yes there is another thread on this that has been marked as resolved by someone else but it is still not working.

    As the other ticket hadn’t been updated and backups looked to be working as scheduled, just not manually, that ticket was likely closed because the issue isn’t really due to the plugin but due to the loopback connections.

    I updated that ticket to clarify you were affected in the same way as this user, who had backups working fine previous to this update but now can’t backup at all.

    I am not sure it is due to the loopback connections, or if it is the previous version of Backupwordpress worked with it, because since the update to the latest Backupwordpress, that is when it has stopped working. It has worked fine on my sites on Heart Internet for the last 4/5 years up until I updated the Backupwordpress a few weeks back.

    Now it simply does not work.

    At this point, because of the limitation on Heart Internet with their loopback connections, the developers do not see a way to force the plugin to work on Heart Internet hosting. I’m really sorry for any inconvenience this might cause anyone affected. 🙁

    Marking this as resolved, as it isn’t an actual support problem with the plugin as, unfortunately, we are limited by Heart Internet’s policy on disallowing Loopback connections.
