Strange behavior thumbnail weight

I found a strange behavior with the thumbnail weight. I am using a responsive gallery with thumbnail set to 150×150 and crop mode enabled.
What ever JPEG quality I put in settings of FooGallery I get the thumbnail size in kilobytes always the same and let me say very high.
It creates thumbnails of about 50KB and if I save them instead with RIOT or GIMP at the same quality they decrease to 7/8KB.
Also the standard WordPress thumbnail of 150×150 in my case has this dimension so I suppose that there is something strange or not correctly working in the thumbnail creation algorithm of FooGallery.
ps. I clean the cache many times but same results.
Do you have any idea what could be the problem?
