• I need a suggestion for a theme that will list categories at the top, so I can create a post, assign a category, and have the post associated with that category.

I’m confused about pages and categories (sorry I’m completely new to this, yes I looked thru other posts but did not find an answer).

I have installed several themes, but although I have added categories to the menu, I can’t get them to “list” the categories at the top (see below, where names of fruits would be the categories):

    Name of Page

apples oranges grapefruit pears grapes cherries blueberries

I tried adding “pages”, but then I have to add each post to the menu as a subpage (this is how the web hosting guy said to do it), but I found a forum post that suggested using categories instead, which made more sense.

    Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

  • Which theme are you looking at using?

on the appearance -> menus section of your dashboard there are two tabs:

you create a menu and add stuff to it and then there’s the other tab where you choose where to put it (menu location). not all themes will have a top menu but whatever menu areas are supported by you theme will be listed in the locations section.

Posts are new things you add, Pages are static things (generally) like About Us, Contact Us etc.
