I love this plugin. I have had it for some time. I been having problems, but I use a lot of plugins on a MultiSite install -it took a while to isolate. It only effects the site it is activated in – connection errors.

I created a new subsite to use Qwizcards to avoid plugin conflicts. The same thing still happens:

It is clear that when I activate Qwizcards the site it is activated on grinds slowly to a stop. If I am working on a page/post on that site I get “connection error… – saving post in browser…”. If I try to move within the site, the page/post tries to load and I will eventually get “database connection error”.

This is premature to post. I admit – I do have network activated plugins. It will be a messy hassle to deactivate/activate the network ones. I will deactivate the unimportant ones first.

Either way – I’d inform you of the issue. Whether I figured it out or not. So I will post this thread.

    Thank you.

  • We are having the same problem, also on a multisite install. I only had two other plugins activated on my site (iFramely and WP-Pro-Quiz) but Qwizcards still caused the site to hang even when these other two plugins were deactivated. We also have several network activated plugins install-wide.

Please let us know if you find a solution.

I have a MultiSite install too. I created a new site, deactived all network plugins, except JetPack and Askimet. It still drags super long to do anything on the site – including simple navigating.

I have done nothing on the site but add one post to try one flashcard. No themes or plugins.

Amend that…”connection lost error” when trying to update no changes to a qwiz card post.

    On a MuliSite
    – sole plugin active on one, empty, site.
    – network plugins deactivated, except JetPack and Askimet
I cannot deactivte JetPack because I had trouble maintaining the connections to WordPress.com. I crosspost to my WP.com blogs.
    – it grinds slowly just to activate and deactivate Qwizcard plugin.

Entire site drags, connection lost while trying to update no changes to a Qwizcard post. The Qwizcard consisted of one card/entry.

I am going to try this plugin – it doesn’t look as elegant as Qwizcards at all in the screen shots. I am disappointed before I even ectivate it:

I am not spending much time on it, that other plugin, only if the Qwizcard developer doesn’t respond here.

Thanks for the heads up. Sorry not to respond sooner — I haven’t gotten notifications of posts here (although I’ve now clicked the checkbox, below).

If you have a test site that has Qwizcards activated and shows this behavior, could you give me a URL? I can at least try to take a look at network activity in the browser.

The common thread here is “Multisite”. I haven’t done any testing of Qwizcards with that, so let me give that a try. By the way, do you “network activate” Qwizcards, or do you activate it at the site level? And does it make any difference?

    Thanks again,

    Hi,
Glad to see you, you usually do reply – I was confident of that which is why I checked back this morning. 🙂

It was working for a long time on my MultiSite. I wonder if WP major updates played a role?

1). I only activate Qwizcards per site, not network.
2). The plugin only causes issues for the site is is activaed in. The other sites are not effected.
3). My URL to the subsite: http://toni-esl.com/practice/

4). Warning, I have almost 200 plugins – so it could be messy viewing, (they are not all active ever) I don’t know what you can see.

I need to deactive my network plugins again. I will do so now for a while. You can also give me a time window you plan to check it out.

    Big thanks!

11:57 am CT all deactived, ready for you to check.

i had created two pages – one is blank, Quiz Cards has content. Qwiz Cards does not.

    OK, thanks! I’ll take a look…

I am curious – for learning purposes – what are you looking at and for?

Oops! There is a theme active. Sorry.

    Plugin Author Dan Kirshner

    (@dan-kirshner)

Well, I was thinking — because of the “database connection errors” mentioned — that I would see the Qwizcards JavaScript somewhere making database requests (to your WordPress site database, perhaps). But I see that the test site pages don’t really have any content; the Qwizcards JavaScript doesn’t have anything to do.

In fact, the network activity just indicates that page loads — whatever page one tries to load — are inordinately slow (~30 sec). So there’s a general backend slowdown, which we still think is related to Qwizcards.

The diagnostic I’d like to try is turning off Qwizcards’ content filter (which is actually applied to all pages on a site when they are loaded — the filter looks to see if there’s a quiz or deck on the page).

You could do this — if you’re willing — via Dashboard > Plugins. Under Qwizcards click Edit — you should then be editing Editing qwiz-online-quizzes-and-flashcards/qwiz-online-quizzes-wp-plugin.php. If not, you can pick it from the file list on the right.

About 2/3 of the way down in this file you should find the line:

    add_filter ('the_content', 'qwiz_process_shortcodes_initially');

Please comment it out by inserting “//” at the beginning of the line.

Or, if you’re willing, you could give me administrative access so I could do this (and any next steps that occur to me). But don’t worry about it — I’ll set up a multisite test and see if I can reproduce the problem.

    Thanks!

    Any news?

    (@dan-kirshner)

Well, if you did that edit (and saved the edit — I forgot to mention that!), it sure hasn’t made any difference.

    Thread Starter Toni

    (@tools4toni)

I did not see the edit request. I do not mind giving you access. I prefer it. If I give you access you can try a couple and things of deal with results. I think that is best.

How shall I get you the login info?

    Thread Starter Toni

    (@tools4toni)

I added the // before that line and saved. Specifically:

    //add_filter (‘the_content’, ‘qwiz_process_shortcodes_initially’);

    – It is still verrrry slow. Didn’t make a difference that I can see.

**I see that the “connection loss” error only happens when you try to publish/update/go to view from edit Qwiz Card content, page or post.

I added content to this page: http://toni-esl.com/practice/qwiz-cards/

(Hmm, thought I posted this already. Trying again…)

    Thanks much. Still a mystery!

    You’re welcome.

By the way – the first thing I usually blame is JetPack, but I don’t dare test it – because WP.com had on and off issues connecting to my WP.org sites.

I will also say that I am suspicious of the last major WP update, 4 something. Because of the timing and based of support threads I looked at then – all sorts of things broke for various plugins, themes too. But again, I am clueless. Just suspicious.

I hope you figure it out! I love the plugin. Very simple, elegant, and interesting for the user to view and use. Makes mundane fun.

I will leave this thread unresolved for now.

    Good luck and skill!
    Toni
