• Everytime I refresh the page the number of queries varies. For example on the front page I am was now refreshing every few seconds, up to every 2 min. It was showing 66, 67, 107 and 116 queries… Prior to that I have disabled all plugins. Is WordPress core doing some cache? If so, is there a possibility to prevent that and to show real numbers?

The number of queries can vary if WordPress performs an update check, but it’ll only cause two or three extra queries. I’m not sure what else would reliably cause such a large variation.

Does the same behaviour occur with one of the default themes (such as Twenty Fifteen) in use?

Yes, I just checked. Numbers were 8 and 41 on single page. But I also found that WP Super Cache doesn’t fully deactivate when deactivated so that could be the case hm…
