    Hi,
since a few days the Google Search Console (former Webmastertools) began showing errors for a wordfence related query.

    The query is like followes:
    http://example.com/?wordfence_logHuman=1&hid=XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
where the X are a string of letters and numbers.
The error also appears, when accessing the given URL directly.
Sadly it doesn’t produce any error log output.
It seams, that there is always a 500-error unless, wordfence_logHuman=0 – which redirects to the frontpage.

Any chance to get rid of these errors?

  • Hi Nex,

So the errors just started. Did you enable Live Traffic or was it already enabled? Are you running the latest version of Wordfence (6.0.22)?

    Thanks,

    Hi Brian,
I’m running the latest version (6.0.22).
Live traffic logging is enabled, but I didn’t change the state.

I recently changed Servers with my WP-installation, which crashed my settings of Wordfence, but deactivating and reactivating fixed this Problem.

A few days after the server move, the problems showed up in GSC.

    Thanks for the help,
    Nex

@nexorianus: Sometimes when moving a site to a new server, file permissions or database privileges are not the same. Make sure the database user has all privileges on all tables in the database, and that the site’s files are writable by the web server. (In Wordfence, you can turn on “Disable config caching” near the bottom of the options page, to fix certain issues, even if the file permissions aren’t right.)

It’s strange that there is no error log — usually “500” errors will show up in it. If you check with your host, they may be able to enable the error log for you, or send you a copy of it.

It’s also possible that it’s something outside of Wordfence causing the 500 error. Does the host use mod_security, Varnish, or any type of reverse proxy? Or is there anything in the .htaccess file of the site that appears unusual? (You can post it here if it is short, or use a site like pastebin.com to post it, and just give us a link here. Make sure to remove sensitive information, if any.)
