Did you take any database backup before upgrading to 4.4?
I had a nearly similar problem before and optimizing the database from phpMyAdmin helped. It may help but can’t guaranty.
Hope someone else has a better and more accurate solution for you.
Thanks for your reply. We have some backup but the jpeg images can actually be seen from the Media/Library tab so I don’t think they’re lost; however, they disappear when I try to upload new images from the Add Media button on the dashboard. Very perplexing; we’re a small historical group and this platform has been great for us until now. We use a lot of photos but can’t find a way to get them on the site now. Thanks again for your thoughts.
I have the same problem. I noticed that after an image upload fails, if you save a draft copy and go back into image library the image will actually be there.
But this is a big problem, especially when you try to drag a half dozen or so images into the article. It’s just error after error.
Same problem. Thanks for the workaround, beggers.
Cheers, Greg.
Exactly same problem as beggers. Upload image, error message, appears to fail, but save a draft of the post and return to Media Library and there it is.
It doesn’t happen all the time, but I would say a good 75% of times the image upload will appear to fail. A 4.4 bug?
Well, here’s some new information. All my problems went away when I disabled Sucuri. That software keeps trying to “call home” every time I do anything and supposedly their server is currently under attack or something. So WordPress has to wait for it to time out (300 seconds) before it can continue. Apparently this is why the uploads were failing.
For example, I tried using Better Revision Delete to delete a bunch of old revisions and the process took all night. When I woke up the next morning there was a huge list of time-out errors from Sucuri.
I hate these programs that call home all the time. Shareaholic is another one.
Maybe this info will help some of you.
Thanks beggers. I’ve just done some testing that supports your finding. After deactivating Sucuri, adding media is faster and error-free, and my site is noticeably more responsive, particularly signing on.
Cheers, Greg.
That worked for me, too. I upgraded to 4.4.1 but turning off Sucuri certainly repaired the image upload problem!
Thanks beggars!
