• I was surprised to see so many 1 star reviews on rtMedia. I recently purchased a theme with rtMedia installed and it works great, albeit a few minor annoyances, which is typically the case with just about any plugin. I had some issues with the plugin and support helped me out and they were very nice and went above and beyond.

I even recommended a feature request regarding privacy controls for all updates added to activity feed so that I wouldn’t have to use yet another plugin (currently only one available is BuddyPress Activity Privacy) to do something that should be in buddypress core, and rtMedia team is going to implement in a near future update. They already put up on github. Should go live soon in full version. (UPDATE – 12/23/2015: Feature has gone live!) This means rtMedia will also be a replacement for BuddyPress Activity Privacy plugin which is great if you plan on using rtMedia for your buddypress community well into the future. In addition to adding all the Facebook-like media capabilities that it offers, can’t really beat it.

My only complaint is that their add-ons are a bit expensive, but honestly any real business running on Buddypress should be able to afford these if they need them, after all they are a business too and naturally need to make money themselves.

Overall I would say rtMedia is a solid plugin that offers a lot, even for the base version. Sure there are some quirks, the add-ons are kind of expensive, etc., but it offers some great functionality, and support was great when I needed their assistance.

I was wondering the same thing. I think some people are criticising it for a lack of free support, but that’s not really a judgement of the plugin itself.
