• Not sure why I hesitated for so long but Jetpack does simply so many items that should 1) either be in the core WP code or 2) are scattered throughout multiple 3rd party plugins. For my simple site, the most glaring missing feature is the ability to put the Sharing icons in a widget. Right now, they are added to the bottom of your page and posts with no placement control. Give me this ability and I’ll turn my review from 4 to 5 stars.

    Thanks for the feedback!

While Jetpack doesn’t offer a built-in option to move your sharing icons around, you can follow this tutorial to make the changes in your theme:

    I hope this helps.

It does help, thanks. However, JP seems to be targeted at less technical authors. When non-tech types see PHP code, they often glaze over and ignore it. Plus, my theme is updated regularly. With every theme update, I need to reapply custom edits.

Is there a philosophical reason the share icons aren’t widgetized, or is it just not a feature at this time?

If you need help with some of the code snippets in that post, don’t hesitate to start a new thread in the support forums; we’re always here to help and guide you through the parts that might be a bit more difficult.

You can avoid this issue by creating a Child Theme with your changes.

It just hasn’t been suggested by many people. If, however, it becomes a popular request, we’ll consider adding an option to Jetpack itself!
