I did a search on the problem I’m having and found several folks having the same problem, and none of them seem to have received a satisfactory response. Well, I’ll give it a shot anyway. I’m running 2.7.1.

I’m in WP’s theme editor, attempting to change the copyright date on the theme’s footer file, and I have that silly little message at the bottom of the screen telling me I have to set permissions to save the file. Went and looked, and they’re 755. Changed them to 775, still no difference. CLeared the cache, exited then reloaded the Editor, did a page refresh. Still nada.

    What gives?

I can edit the file no problem using an editor on my home machine, but it would be kinda nice to use this feature when I might have a need to.

Log in with your SSL/FTP program. Go inside your theme’s folder. Select all the files and right click “properties”. Choose 777. Okay. Reload your page and you should be able to edit and save them.
