somebody requested a new pass word for my account, and before I could respond that it wasn’t me they got in and deleted my web page. Is there any way I can find out where the new password link was sent? I tried to reply to the notice that was sent to me, but it came back.

  • Hi Larry,

There are two things you can do immediately.

    1. You can access the WP database through PHPmyAdmin in your control panel of your hosting provider and change your password back to something strong and that you will remember. Also you will be able to delete any user that has since created an account there, should your site indeed have been hacked. Here is a quick article on how to change your password through PHPmyAdmin. https://codex.wordpress.org/Resetting_Your_Password#Through_phpMyAdmin

    2. Some hosting providers (the good ones) keep a backup of your site and you will be able to restore it to a previous version – however remember this will also effect any posts you had made since your password got ‘hacked’ Once restored to a previous working versions everything will be as it was and I will suggest thereafter changing your admin password immediately.

    I hope this helps?

Also, follow this guide. When you’re done, you may want to implement some (if not all) of the recommended security measures.

the problem that I’m having is that me web page is gone, and I can not even get my WP dash board. I think every thing is gone. I would like to get ahold of the SOB that did this. I have an idea of who it could be, but can’t prove it. would like to get address of who WP sent the link to for changing password.

    Hi @larry

    Do you have a backup?

If you don’t, have you contacted your host? They often have at least a 24 hour backup available.

    Hey Larry,

The advice given by Tara and Myself above is all you need to get your site back on track. You dont need to access your WP dashboard to do what I suggested above. You need only access your Cpanel of your hosting account.

Good luck and hope it works out.

Also, revenge is not ever the best option 😉

    Take care,

    Jason
