• Hi, I’m one of the IT Managers at the University of Arizona and I’m trying to get in contact with someone from WordPress about existing websites we’d like to keep online that used to belong to a researcher/faculty member who is now deceased.

  • These are wordpress.org forums. wordpress.org is just software; it doesn’t host any sites.

If you are talking about sites on wordpress.com, you’ll need to look here:

Thanks. I searched for support earlier in the day and had already found that. If you visit the link it states they are working through a backlog and don’t offer any support unless you are a paying customer. I know my ex-colleague was paying for these services. Does anyone have any contact info for someone at wordpress.COM that can assist?

Are you sure you have to pay to post in their forums? https://en.forums.wordpress.com/

There’s some discussion here that might help: https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/what-to-do-when-owner-dies?replies=23

@uarey If you are certain that the sites in question are hosted on WordPress.com systems, then that is the correct thread to read.

However, if the site merely runs the WordPress software, then you will need to contact the hosting provider for those sites.

If you are uncertain, and are willing to tell us the URL of the sites, then people here on the forums can take a quick look and verify which of these is the case, and possibly even tell you the hosting service and provide contact information.

    Thanks Otto,

The sites we know of are:

    rafesagarin.com
    observationandecology.com
    learnfromtheoctopus.com

We’re pretty certain that they are hosted by WordPress because of the information provided to us by the domain registrar who stated the URLs were purchased through WordPress as a reseller. If you could tell us for certain that would be great! Again those are the sites we are aware of and we’d like to know if there are others hosted at WordPress so his family can decide what action to take. Thanks for your help!

All three of those websites state at the bottom of the page that they’re on wordpress.com. So yes you need to visit https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/what-to-do-when-owner-dies?replies=23 to solve this problem.
