landing page after log-in

how can I direct a new user upon logging in to land on the blog rather than the dashboard? I don’t want them to see that page first with the WordPress Development Blog, Other WordPress News, and such. They will be too confused. If they are already on the blog and want to leave a comment using the comment link, they are directed to log in and are sent directly back to the blog comment area without seeing the dashboard. Is there a way to allow landing on the blog when logging in with the Meta log in link or as a fresh log-in?
