Tried updating the plugin – it shows the Updating… with the spinning arrow.

The only way to stop it is to deactivate the plugin via FTP.

Reactivated PTA Volunteer and deactivated all other plugins on the site, tried to update PTA Volunteer and got the same result, indicating it is not a conflict with the other plugins.

    Assistance would be great.

I do not control the WordPress.org updating system, nor does my plugin have any kind of built-in update functions. All of the updating is handled via the plugin repository/svn system here on WordPress.org.

To make sure there were no problems with missed/corrupted files in the latest update I uploaded a couple of days, I just now did an update to this latest version on another site of mine, and no problems at all. There have been hundreds of downloads/updates in the last few days, with no other reports of update issues.

To me, that suggests either a connectivity or firewall issue on your server when you were trying to update, maybe some file/directory permission issues on your server, or there was some kind of problem with the WordPress.org server when you tried to update, and the connection timed out.

If automatic update fails to work for some reason, just click the button on the main plugin description page to download the latest version as a zip file. Then, you can either use FTP to upload and overwrite the plugin files on your server (after extracting them from the zip archive), or you can uninstall/delete the old version and then install again using the zip file upload method with the zip archive you downloaded.

Other than that, I can’t help you as my plugin has no built-in update functions, other than indicating the current version so the WordPress system knows if there is an update or not (and that part is obviously working if you are seeing the update).

It was strange and I’m not exactly sure why it wasn’t working, but now it is.

    What I did:
Renamed the existing plugin file via FTP.
Downloaded the plugin via WP and uploaded it to my site (as per your suggestion).

    So far it’s working!

Thank you for your very fast response.

Probably just a network/connectivity issue. Happens sometimes. Glad you got it working.

    Marking this as resolved.
