Hi Aimee, to get your site looking like the Sketch demo, you’ll need to assign your homepage to a static page and then set that page to use the Portfolio template. You’ll find the steps to do that listed here:
https://theme.wordpress.com/themes/sketch/
To use portfolios make sure you’ve activated Jetpack’s Custom Content Types module.
Let me know if you get stuck at any step!
Thanks so much Kathryn, I think I am getting there.
If you take a look now you will see I have the ‘featured’ content going across the top, but now need to have the posts underneath it rather than my “hello” page, I think I know how to do this, but my next question is how do I set my previous posts to be part of a portfolio? and can I have my sidebar widget on the home page as well?
Looking good!
Sketch isn’t designed to display both featured content and your latest posts on the same page, but a workaround could be to try a plugin like Display Posts Shortcode, and then add a shortcode in your homepage content area.
I’ve read through all the Sketch documentation, but I can’t figure out how to set the large image across the top of the portfolio page. What am I missing? Also, is the small gray box with text in the lower left corner part of the design (as shown in the demo), or is it part of the image?
@indieseattle — Hi!
To add the featured slider at the top on the front page, first make sure you have the Jetpack plugin installed and activated.
Then set a page to Portfolio Page Template, and when you tag any posts, pages, projects with a featured tag (like “featured”).
Next add that same tag in the Tag Name box under Appearance > Customize > Featured Content and the items tagged with it will show up in the slider at the top of the page.
