I will take look at this soon for you. Possibly this evening, but if not, I’ll try to find time this weekend. This should be a fixable problem.

I think this is due to a bug I just fixed this evening. I hadn’t managed to replicate this until now, because it only triggered for users who are logged in, and I mustn’t have tested that scenario until now.

Thanks for reporting the problem 🙂

It will be fixed in an update to the plugin later tonight. In the mean time, you can grab the version of GitHub if you like, as that has a the fix in it already. https://github.com/ryanhellyer/spam-destroyer/

Sorry. There’s no way I’m going to get this ready this evening. The fix on GitHub should work just fine though I think. I’ll hopefully get some other bbPress problems ironed out ready for a release here on WordPress.org later this week.

We’ve been having this problem for a while, too, I had to deactivate Spam Destroyer – which sucks, because now I get tons of spam 🙂

I just tried activating the plug-in again and it looks like your fix hasn’t gone through yet. Hopefully soon! I’ll try again later this week.

This appears to be more complex to fix think that I had first thought :/ I’ve fixed the error above, but I can see other issues which keep cropping up.

I’m intending to rewrite the bbPress functionality. bbPress has it’s own way of handing comments, which I had hooked into. But I think it would be best to bypass that, to avoid bugs (which is what is happening at the moment).

I’ll keep posting back here as I make progress on this.

BTW, if an old version of the plugin worked for you, just revert to that version. There are no know security problems with the older versions of the plugin, and there should be no issues with downgrading to the older version other than it missing some newer functionality and improvements.

For me, it was working since installing it, and then one day this started. It didn’t seem to correlate with an update to either Spam Destroyer or bbpress, so I’m not sure what changed.

Could you try this, and let me know if it works?

    https://downloads.wordpress.org/plugin/spam-destroyer.1.4.3.zip

It’s the version before I made a fairly large change recently.

Looks like that fixed the commenting problem! I can post in the forums with no issue using v 1.4.3.

I can let you know tomorrow if it’s affected the spam coming in. It was previously blocking almost all of our blog comment spam, and since de-activating we’ve been getting about 20 – 30 spam comments each night. So it’ll be easy to tell if those are blocked successfully again!

Thanks so much for your help on this, by the way, awesome support!

All appears to be right in the world again! With v 1.4.3, bbpress forum posts/commenting is working, and all of my blog comment spam is being blocked again.

    Thanks!
