Child Theme homepage and Widgets changed.

I am using a child them Tempera from Cryout Creations.
I have my website http://www.englisheverest.com working.
When I activate Polylang immediately without even setting up the basic settings, my Homepage of englisheverest.com becomes englisheverest.com/sample-page/
It also removes my sidebar widget settings (which have image galleries)
I have checked the languages folder in WordPress and I have the default language files etc…,

I will probably be able to work out the settings but I cannot work out why a sample page (which I don’t have) is replacing my home page.

Any ideas?
