• Hi, I’m new to wordpress. Imade a website, but there’s quite a few things that I find weird when i search for my website from google.

    1) How do i only make my main page searchable? At the moment, google shows results of my subpages as well.
    2) Although my search is a direct match of my website name, my website only comes up near the end of the 1st page (even after my subpages). How do i correct this?
    3) The snippet description of my site isn’t what i want it to be. How do i change this?

    Many thanks

  • Hey Arvarius, you could probably accomplish question one using a robots.txt file, using the Disallow: command.

Question 2 could be many factors including how popular the keywords are in your website name and also, just time. Even Google takes time to index and re-index things.

    3. If you don’t have a meta description tag defined most search engines will grab the first text they see which is probably the page title then the standard wordpress tagline found in the General Settings section of your WP Admin.

    Hope this helps!

    Good Luck!

Try using SEO plugins (ex – SEO by yoast), Will your valuable time while fixing issues.

I’d suggest signing up for Google Webmasters for SEO

This will let you monitor how many pages have been indexed by Google and what keywords make your site show up. It will also show you how your site will show up in the google search pages. You can also submit a sitemap (a list of links to pages on your website) to Google that they will use to index your site with and you can monitor to see which pages have been indexed in Google search.

Like dana-wildflower suggested, for only allowing the front page indexed, setting up a robots.txt for your site would be useful if you want to exclude/include certain pages on your site. You can get more info here
