• I *really* hope somebody can help here since there is no support from WP themselves. GoDaddy has tried their best to help me, but to no avail.

I had been hosting, via GoDaddy, a WP.org site with my own domain name. MYName.com

I recently created a new site in SquareSpace, however, there is a portfolio section in my old WP site that is massive and too much work to recreate, so I decide to let it stand in the old WP site for the time being and just link to it from my SquareSpace site.

I contacted GoDaddy and they created a sub-domian – portfolio.MyName.com – to be the new domain for the old WP site so that I could link back to the pages I wanted to from my new SquareSpace site.

However, once I pointed MyName.com to the new SquareSpace site, I lost the ability to log-on to the admin of the old WP site.

ps: I have tried logging in to the subdomain portfolio.MyName.com/wp-login.php and, while that gives me a place to enter user name and password, it just goes to a 404 Not found page.

    Help? Please?? Thanks in advance.

  • Firstly I’d try reading some of the suggestions here.

    http://codex.wordpress.org/Login_Trouble

If none of that helps you reply here, and I’ll try and dig further into a more specific fix for your login issue.

Hope to be able to get you back up and running again as soon as possible.

    Hello theACP,

From what it sounds like, when your domain name was switched to point to SquareSpace instead of GoDaddy, the subdomain is also pointing so SquareSpace. If you setup an A record in your DNS for the subdomain to point back to your GoDaddy hosting, that should do the trick. GoDaddy support should be able to set it up for you if you need. Hope that helps.

Could also be a possible issue, definitely worth looking into as well.

Thanks, David, but no, no help there.

Ended up having to point domain back to WP site, rename site URL with sub-domain, then point original URL back at SqSp. That enabled me to regain access to WP site. That being said, seems all links are now broken, which is fine. I’ve decided to revamp the entire portfolio from the old site to the new site. More work, but it’s OK; I likely need to tidy it up anyway. 🙂

    Thank you for your input.

You’re welcome! There always seems to be something we can do to point someone in the right direction.

Glad you found a temporary fix if nothing.

Let me know if any other issues arise you need advice or help with.
