"visibility" filter on "recent posts" widget not working

    Hi, when i add the “visibility” component to my recent post widget it (the widget) disappears. When i put “recent posts” in ANY of the widget positions, it works. I added a second “recent posts” widget and tried to add visibility so only one category would appear and then it disappears. Please help!

    The blog I need help with is myrutherford.org.n (One of the widgets is called “news” and the other “volunteer”…I basically want any posts that I categorize as “volunteer” to show up in the volunteer column, and not the news column)

    I think there’s some confusion about how the widget visibility conditions work. 🙂 Setting a widget to appear only on a particular category only displays the widget on that specific category archive. It does not change which posts are displayed in the widget itself. Posts from all categories always displayed in the widget.

    It sounds like you need to look for a plugin that lets you pull recent posts from only specific categories and display them in a widget.

    It is such a shame that the widget cannot just display posts of a single category. Any chance the widget can be enhanced? I am aware that a plug-in is available, I would even write one myself but I do not have FTP access since at the moment I am using the free service. For now, I am limited to the features that are shipped with the theme in caption (which is awesome by the way).

    That widget is a part of the Jetpack plugin and, if you feel strongly about such functionality being included in upcoming releases, I encourage you to post an enhancement request on their GitHub repository here:

    https://github.com/Automattic/jetpack/issues

    Add the “Extra Sidebar Widgets” label to your request and also “[Type] Enhancement.”

    The team can discuss the option of updating the widget from there.
