    Have you more than one categories selected for your posts? This is possible with WP.
    Please check the posts which were wrong displayed, if this have more categories checked.

    No. The posts are correctly assigned to one category each

    The widget is displaying posts of ALL categories limited to the maximum number set (i.e. 3) instead of just the one category selected.

    Well that’s interesting. I just tried installing it again and this time it’s working correctly.
