You don’t need to make any changes in the Database. All changes can be made through WordPress Admin panel.

WordPress admin does not allow a change of username, it requires adding a new user then deleting the old one (which seems to have triggered issues mentioned in other posts I made yesterday).

So, can I change usernames in the DB by just changing a single value in the user_login field?

You can if that is what you want. But wouldn’t it be easier to create a new user name?

Sorry for the wrong information above. What I meant to say was you can’t change the user name but you can create a nick name. Then make sure your display name is never your user name.

Make a backup of your database just in case something goes wrong.
