The way mobile 2FA is supported is the following –

If a user has 2FA enabled, and he browse through his mobile, (since many of our second factor is associated with the mobile itself, we cant rely on the mobile at that point because then it wont remain a true second factor because if someone steals the mobile then he will have everything to login) so what we do in this case is we detect that the request is coming in from a mobile and switch to KBA (Knowledge based answers) and if he enters them correctly then we let him in.

This is supported in our cloud platform (www.miniOrange.com) and has been tested on iOS and Android phones using chrome and safari browsers. If you have a mobile app, we have APIs that we can integrate with your app and make it work.

However, It seems from initial testing using wordpress iOS app that it does some gizmo and is different from how a mobile browser like chrome or safari. So currently the wordpress iOS app shows an error after entering userid and password. Looking into it.

This issue has been resolved in the 4.0 version of the plugin. The user can now log into their WordPress dashboard using Security Questions (KBA) by clicking on view admin option in the app.

When you login via View Admin the app does nothing different than the mobile site. It loses the added functionality of the app.

Using Android app and I’m unable to login with the app itself, still giving the error.

If you have already setup the blog in you app then you can login into dashboard by KBA as 2nd factor. If you dont want to go through 2nd factor each time you click on View Admin option then enable Remenber Device in the plugin.

If you want to setup the blog after the 2 factor plugin is setup then go into Login Settings and uncheck Enable Two Factor Plugin. Once your blog is setup then remember to check that option again.

    Hi!

Your plugin doesn’t seem to offer users a way to log into their sites in the Android and iOS apps. When I say apps, I mean the mobile phone apps offered on this page:

    http://apps.wordpress.org/

not their sites on a mobile browser such as Safari or Chrome. Do you plan on adding a feature that will allow it anytime soon? Thank you! 🙂

    Hi,

The plugin is supported in Android and iOS apps. Recently we have added an option of XML-RPC settings in the Login Settings tab. If you want to setup your wordpress site in these apps then you have to enable that option.

But make sure that you turned off that option after setting up your site in these apps as it is not recommended.

    Thanks,

Hi, when I turn on the XML-RPC option, the Android app let’s me access my site, but as soon as I disable it, I can’t access it. Would I have to keep turning it on and off each time I want to use the Android app? Appreciate your help.

I think in the android app, setup of the site is one time process. You don’t need to set up the same site again and again. After setting it up if you will disable that option still you can access your dashboard.

The flow in android app will be like this:
After setting up, when you try to access your site like view admin option, you will be asked to enter your username and password then 2nd factor. But every time you try to access dashboard you have to enter your credentials and then pass through 2nd factor. So my suggestion is that you should enable ‘Remember Device’ option given in Login Settings tab. This setting will increase your user experience in the app.

Hi, thanks for the reply. I tried everything you suggested, but it does not work that way. Here’s what I did:

    1) I removed the site from the Android app.
    2) I enabled xml-rpc on the site and checked the “remember device” option
    3) I added the site in the app and made sure everything worked.
    4) I disabled xml-rpc on the site
    5) I tried using the app again and nothing would upload or download

Unless I leave xml-rpc checked, the app doesn’t work. Any other suggestions?

If it so, then you can enable that option if you want to setup the site in your app for the time being. We are working on it to provide a separate password to login into these apps as recommended by wordpress.

    Thanks,

Please let notify here when your update goes live. Thanks!
