Month View

I second this request (and indeed came here to post it).

Let me see if I can reword this better: have a setting in the Settings page that allows the Month View to default to either the current month (Legacy mode) or “Smart Month” (first month that has an upcoming event, which can be the current month).

So, today is September 22 as I post this. If I have published Events set for September 15 (recent past) and for October 2 (next upcoming), the way things are now, the Month view won’t show the next event by default until midnight (site timezone) on October 1, which is awfully short notice.

With “Smart Month” enabled, it would show September right up until the End Time of the last event on September 15, then automatically switch to showing October. If there were no October nor November Events published but there was one or more in December (say, a Christmas party), then it would start showing December by default just as soon as the most recent previous event had passed.

If there are no future published Events at all, then show the current (empty or past-events-only) month just as the current (hopefully soon-to-be Legacy) Month View does, perhaps with an overlay text saying some admin-definable text along the lines of, “No upcoming events at this time. | Check back later, or subscribe to this calendar.”

“Smart Month” should be the default on new installations, and the Welcome screen for updates should inform admins of the new feature and ask if they want to automatically activate it, or at least give them a link to the Settings page to activate it.
