chmod 777 /wp-content the 1st time you do it
after that chmod 755 should work

I believe that you need to upload via the upload tool for it to show in the library as I think there is a reference in the database for the library to show it etc.
Samboll – you answered my earlier post with the same comment; the 777 does work and removes the error but in my instance you cannot actually see the files contents in the library or the front-end.
Also, are you advocating a 777 change then a 755 change back – and should it be recursive?
i tried to make it 777 and it is still doing the same thing when i try to upload
I am not sure entirely how PHP/Wordpress works in as far as permissions or what permissions a process needs etc but I am beginning to think the process which my server is running in does not have the necessary permissions to do anything bar read.
FileZilla reports back that the permissions on files on folders etc but when I try to change them (775 or 777) it comes back with a
Set permissions of ‘/httpdocs/wp-content/uploads/2009/03’ to ‘775’
Command: SITE CHMOD 775 03
Response: 550 CHMOD 775 03: Operation not permitted
Very odd.
Tony – who is your host? They seem like total control freaks.
The host is a VPS vendor which has been generally very good. I am using Plesk on this account and it all seems to have installed AOK just a few issuettes such as not being able to upload files (now fixed) – but FileZilla cannot seem to change settings.
I did change it to 777 yesterday….
I am still getting this error…. i double checked and it is set at 777 for sure
The uploaded file could not be moved to /var/www/vhosts/phoenixreoblog.com/httpdocs/wp-content/uploads.
ideas?
The host for this one wordpress site is theplanet.com Has anyone had this same problem? I just triple checked and it is 777
