    Hello!
I am importing events to my calendar with the CSV importer, but since I am from Norway many of my events, locations and categories contain letters that are special for the Norwegian language (æ, ø, å). If any of the imported data contains these letters the import is not successful. But it doesn’t register as an error. The report after importing says that all posts are imported successfully, but they just doesn’t appear in the calendar. I have checked the UTF-8 character table, and I can find these characters there, so I don’t think it is an issue with the character set coding. It would save me a lot of work to sort this out, so I hope there is way to fix this.

    Howdy Ariamu,

I have good news, the CSV importer does support those characters. It supports the entire UTF-8 charset! However, the file you are importing must be UTF-8 encoded. Yours evidently is not when it includes those characters. Some editors export UTF-16 or so forth.

There are online tools to convert charsets. This one for example can help you convert charsets. http://www.webutils.pl/Charset-Converter Run your CSV through such a tool, or when saving it make sure to select the UTF-8 charset. Once it’s set you will have no problems importing files with special characters.

I hope that information helps! Cheers!

    Hello,
I did set the charset to UTF-8 before saving the file, that’s why I posted this question. And the converter you linked to has not UTF-8 as Output, only Input… I can’t see how I will get at UTF-8 file from this tool (BTW, in WordPress TEC has a link to a similar tool, this link is dead…).

    Hi there Ariamu,

Thanks for following-up on this, Can you send us over a link to the file you are trying to import? I would like to confirm this issue, as I’m mostly sure this is an encoding issue, but it might be a bug as well.

Also thanks for reporting the wrong link, hopefully there’s a ticket already logged for that and it should be fixed soon.

    Best,
    Nico
