Use Categories and Tags in Posts

    I don’t understand why we can’t do this already, but I want to be able to use categories with pages. Some say that’s what parents are for, but what about when you need to assign multiple categories?

    Anyway, there doesn’t seem to be a simple plugin or hack for it that I can see, but all I want is to see the category and tag options in the “edit page” screen just like I would for a post.

    I’m just not using the chronological aspect of WordPress for this page 😛

    Andy Staines had a plugin called Page Categories Plus but I don’t see how to ‘acquire’ that plugin any longer.

    I noticed that as well. I was hoping it was just possible to “turn on” the category box for pages. I have another idea that might be sloppy but simpler. I’ll post my results when I’m done.

    Shoot. I tried manually setting the page to post in the database, editing it then going back. That actually works in the sense that it lets me set the categories, tags, excerpt etc, but it doesn’t show up in a category listing.

    If I leave it as a post, the custom page template doesn’t work (which is why they have to be pages in the first place). It doesn’t look like a simple hack is possible after all.

    My best bet is to leave anything that uses custom templates as pages and use plugins to turn back on excerpts and tags. The next challenge is to get pages to be searchable by tags 🙁

    Or get a plugin that allows a Template to be assigned to a post:

    Well that’s pretty easy… Maybe that will solve my problems.
