• I’m sorry if this has been asked and answered, but was wondering if this prevents the sharing of media across sites that a particular user may not have access to? For example, if BOB has access to site1, site2, and site3 only would he be able to see, use and/or upload to site4, which he has no access to.

    Thanks in advance for your response.

  • yes…

    user must have ‘upload’ permissions (Author and above) on the target site.

    (I asked the same question because I goofed up user role switching when testing)

    Thank you for the reply, but its a little confusing. So let me ask it in a different way;

    If a user does not have Author or above access to a site, he/she can not see any images for that site. Is this correct?

    that is correct (I have been confused several times over this but I think I got it now)

    say, 3 subsites on a network

    The subsite you want to use to share media is called MediaSubsite

    The subsite you want to be able to share MediaSubsite’s images is called Friend, and the user is called Friend

    The subsite you don’t want to be able to access MediaSubsite’s images is called Foe, and the user is called Foe

    If User Friend is added as an Author or Editor to MediaSubsite then they have ‘upload’ privileges there and they can see MediaSubsite listed when they go to add media through Media Library to a post

    If User Foe is just a Subscriber, then they won’t see MediaSubsite on the list in the Media Library

    I’m currently looking at different User Role manager plugins to help add Users to the target site but not sure what rules to use etc. User Role Editor is probably an option but not sure it will do what I want.
