Hi will48, sorry I don’t know how this thread got missed. It’s been 5 months so I expect you’ve solved your problem either way, but I’ll answer your question anyway.
At the moment we don’t have support for vertical tabs, but I agree that the tabs aren’t great on a mobile and it’s something that’s been getting in the way of me using the plugin on various customer websites.
I do plan on doing something about the issue at some point, but because the plugin is built on top of jQuery-UI which doesn’t support vertical tabs, any solution I come up with would be a customisation to jQuery UI. Which is less than ideal. However jQuery-UI seem in no hurry to bring in any new features such as nice responsive tabs, so it may have to be done any way.
Alternatively I might look at adding a new type of tab that is built from the ground up by me to get past these issues.
Basically what I’m saying is it’s on the wishlist for the plugin, it’s just difficult for me to find the time to write the code.

Hi Matt,
Funnily enough I was looking around at jQuery stuff the other day and came across this: http://jqueryui.com/tabs/#vertical
Is this a step in the right direction?
Regards,
Will
Hi Will,
Sadly no, those have been around for a long while but there’s no easy way to swap between horizontal and vertical tabs when going between screen sizes. I’ve been meaning to add vertical tabs to the schortcodes for a while (which should be a relatively simple task), which might help a few people, but most people seem to want to have tabs on the desktop but vertical tabs on the mobile.
I’ll figure something out for it at some point though.
