    Hello!

I’m thinking of using your beautiful theme for a client, I just have some questions about costumisation.

I really like the lay-out of the postpage. But I would want to use it differently, as an alternative site navigation. So instead of a newsitem I would make a post (functioning as a page) for About/Contact/Gallery etc etc.

But ofc I also want to have a postpage functioning as a postpage. Is there a way to achieve this? I was thinking maybe with categories. So home would only show posts in the category “home” and the postpage would only show posts in the category “news”. Is this possible? Maybe in a pro version or something?

Also; is it possible to add plugins to the theme like a photogallery of slider?

Looking forward to your reply, thanks in advance!

    Regards,
    Selina

    Hi Selina,

    Thanks for choosing Tracks!

Check out the demo site for Tracks: https://www.competethemes.com/tracks-live-demo/

In the Secondary menu (top-left corner), you can see a few links to categories that each have their own list of Posts. Would something like that work for your site?

And yes, you can add plugins for galleries and sliders. Although, WordPress already has a pretty nice gallery feature built-in: https://codex.wordpress.org/The_WordPress_Gallery

    Hi Ben,

Thanks for the quick reply! Yes, that’s exactly what I’m looking for!

I’ve managed to get a sample of that to work for other pages, just not for the homepage. The homepage is showing all the catagories, is there a way to select which category is shown on the homepage?

    See this example: http://hoffortuin.hello-yellow.nl/

Newsitem 1 & 2 are both on the newspage (top right, sorry it’s in Dutch) but I don’t want them on the homepage since I’m using the homepage as an alternative navigation. I hope my explanation is clear enough…

    Thanks again!
    Regards,
    Selina

    Yea no problem 🙂

Check out this tutorial in the Tracks support center: https://www.competethemes.com/help/customize-menu-tracks/

That will show you how to control all aspects of the menu, including adding links to category archives.

    Thanks again for your reply!

    Thanks, got this working!

I’m just nog sure about how to select categories to display on the homepage. For example I have the categories Home and News. News is a menu item (like the way shown in the tutorial) but I don’t want to display News on the homepage, I just want to show the category Home. How can I do this?

    Thanks again!
    Regards,
    Selina

That’s a bit more technical, but can be done with a child theme. I’ve put together one for you that will update your front page, so it only shows Posts from your Homepage category.

Click here to download the child theme.

Here are the steps for activating the child theme:

    1. Visit your site’s dashboard
    2. Go to the Appearance menu
    3. Click on the “Add New” button at the top of the page
    4. Click on the “Upload Theme” button at the top of the page
    5. Click on the “Choose File” button
    6. Select the tracks-child.zip file you downloaded from above
    7. Click “Install Now”
    8. Once the page reloads, click the blue “activate” link

    You’re welcome 🙂

If you’re happy with Tracks, could you take a minute to leave a review? I would really appreciate it.

    Thanks!

    Hey there, Ben!
I’m trying to do exactly same thing as Shiva, but every time I add a category to menu, clicking it just displays 404 error. I’d like to show posts sorted by categories in menu, but I’m unable to do so – check here http://www.gregciach.net. Could you help me out?

    Hello 🙂

404 errors like this sometimes occur when activating a new theme, but are usually easy to fix. Visit your Permalinks Settings in your dashboard, and try resaving your existing settings.

This will cause WordPress to refresh the .htaccess file, and usually fixes 404 errors like this in the process.

Works like a charm. 😉 Thanks, mate!
