• On this closed topic the issues was not solved.

    The import feature from blogger on tools menu, doesn’t import users, and such information is present in the blogger xml file!

    When I import our blogger blog to WordPress all the messages are set to only one WordPress user.

    That would be really something to improve!

    thanks in advance

  • I suspect this is more of a problem with Blogger than WordPress, because the official Blogger help page does not say that is possible to export users.

    “When you export your blog, you get an .xml file of the posts and comments.”

    https://support.google.com/blogger/answer/97416?hl=en

    However, please see:

    > “Imports posts, images, comments, and categories (blogger tags) from a Blogger blog then migrates authors to WordPress users.”

    https://wordpress.org/plugins/blogger-importer/

    I have not tested it, but this could help perhaps…

    I think it is important to understand though that if Google does not provide the information to WordPress – how is it possible? It is not possible. And this is a decision from Google, not the fault of WordPress. Perhaps for privacy reasons…

    I don’t know who is fault but after opening the blogger xml file with notepad++ I found several passages with the author’s names, though I had no oportunity to check if the structure is ok.

    The author info always appear between the tags <author>

    An example for my case extracted from the blogger xml file

    <author>
    <name>João Pimentel Ferreira</name>
    <uri>https://www.blogger.com/profile/11631276269498052418</uri>
    <email>noreply@blogger.com</email>
    <gd:image rel='http://schemas.google.com/g/2005#thumbnail' width='31' height='32' src='https://images-blogger-opensocial.googleusercontent.com/gadgets/proxy?url=http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ukzdW7JXf4Q/U-d2KHAeOhI/AAAAAAAB8jU/Xy6UzbCFbZA/s220/Jo%2525C3%2525A3o%252BPimentel.jpg&container=blogger&gadget=a&rewriteMime=image/*'/>
    </author>

    That plugin comes with WP and it does not import authors. It simply puts all posts in a bulk which you can then assign to a present author.

    Blogger do not specifically say they can export user info.

    So if the information is not there, there is nothing for WordPress to import.

    Also if you click the link, you will see it is not the official plugin I am talking about with the second link.

    The authors’ information is there and correct.

    I made a simple test, check this simple blogger blog with just two authors:
    http://testeauthors1234.blogspot.com/

    I then downloaded the xml blogger file and all the needed information is there; at the end of such file, it appears:

    Can you show me which bit you are referring to that contains the full author info? Because you are going against what both Google and WordPress are saying…

    > <email>noreply@blogger.com</email>

    If this part, this is just a generic email, not suitable to create an author.

    I guess blogger says it does not transfer users, because when you migrate a blogger blog to another blogger blog using the XML file, new users cannot simply be created, since each post message must be set to an existing user. The creation of users for blogger blogs has its own procedure.

    Nevertheless the author information for each message is there in the XML file.

    We don’t need the author’s email address neither WP uses it when importing from blogger. We just need WP to bulk the posts in sets according to each author. Then (as WP already does) we can assign posts to an existing WP user or we can create a new one, providing then all the WP user needed information.
