It could be a theme or plugin issue
Plugins
Deactivate all but bbpress and see if this fixes. if it does, re-enable one at a time to see which is causing the error.
Themes
If plugins don’t pinpoint the problem, as a test switch to a default theme such as twentytwelve, and see if this fixes.
Then come back
Unfortunately that did not do the trick. See attached screenshot with standard twenty fifteen theme and only bbpress and your plugin avtivated.

Any other suggestion?

Of course. Thank you for your effort!

Hide topic and reply counts – checkbox marked

Remove ‘Private Prefix’ – checkbox marked
hmmm…
I can’t see why it is not working.
I also have recent topic and recent reply widgets for private groups – can you test and see if they are working
Same problem with both widgets, too. Forum visibility in bbpress works as expected, but the widgets show forbidden forums as well.
BTW: Played around with the settings and tried different combinations, but no luck.
hmm.. I don’t really know what to suggest next.
You could try to re-install the plugin
Deleted the plugin, re-installed ist from WordPress.org, nothing changed.
Seems I could not use the widgets, what is a real pitty. The rest of the plugin works aktually as expected.
just a thought, but do you also have my bbp style pack plugin loaded?
Negative, only private groups
ok, I can’t replicate this.
I’ve had another thought – is this because the widget should be showing nothing?
If you create an entry that should show – doe it work then?
YESSSSSSS! That was the problem, now the widget shows as expected. But imho you should get rid of that, it is really confusing. Maybe show something nice instead.
Thanks a bunch for the support.
Great
and absolutely I’ll sort it for next version now I know it’s a problem, not something I’d tested for!
I’ll out a check in for a null return and then as you suggest put a line of text saying something suitable
so thanks for persisting and I’m really pleased we got there in the end
