• For a while now I’ve been having problems with the server response time and server memory usage.

Every few tests in Google PageSpeed Insights I get a red warning that I should fix the ‘Reduce server response time’. (I’m talking about blog posts here, not the homepage. I don’t test the homepage often since it’s not a page where readers from Google would land.)

On the other hand on my server resource page the memory usage (RAM) is above 100MB, usually above 200MB and sometimes I even get close to the resource limit.

Which is extremely strange in my opinion since this happens even when there are no users visiting my website.

So I uninstalled all the plugins. The problem persists.

I contacted the hosting provider and they performed some tests and asked me to change the theme to a basic one. The results improved dramatically with the new theme. The hosting company concluded it’s something in the theme that’s causing the massive resource drain. So here I am, contacting you.

The Pinnacle theme used to perform beautifully over a year ago when I first installed it. I have everything up to date, plugins, theme and WordPress.

And I really don’t want to have to change the theme. My website is travelersuniverse.com. I would really appreciate if you could have a look and give me your opinion.

  • Hey,
    http://tools.pingdom.com/fpt/#!/cQRBEv/http://www.travelersuniverse.com/mistakes-new-bloggers-make

I’m seeing less then a half a second load time?

The main thing I still see which I’ve mention before us that your not loading jquery earlier enough and it’s causing some plugins to give an error when trying to use it in your page content.

But I don’t see that effecting speed? Can you tell me what your seeing?

How can I load jquery earlier? I don’t have it minified especially for this. But I’m not sure how I can load it earlier… Thanks!

And it’s not that much about the speed when there’s only one person on the website as it is about the resource drainage that eventually triggers a longer server response time. Every time a user accesses the website I get 6-7 processes going on. And the RAM jumps to 200Mb. If there are 5 users on the website or I access several pages in the span of a few seconds, the memory usage jumps to almost 400MB. Is this normal? Because I wonder what’s going to happen when I get 20 people visiting my website all at once…

No caching is supposed to make it so that if one person accesses or 500 they all see a cached version no need to do anything on the server it builds the page once every couple hours or day depending on your setting. are you not using page caching?

What processes are going? Are there any php errors in your error logs?
