  • Your site is way overloaded with images of huge files sizes, and your theme doesn’t correctly scale images, either. See https://gtmetrix.com/reports/galvinswines.ie/dZEVOxfz

Because your home page is huge. It’s 10mb, biggest I’ve checked in a while.

First attempt it loaded in under 2 seconds, surprisingly. Second attempt it took 10 seconds.

Try to get it below 2mb and under a second.

See Pingdom to find out which files load, which are largest and which take the longest to load.

Looking at the site, which looks great, I’d guess that image optimisation will be your big challenge.

Have a try with the plugin Bulk Optimize.
It will make your images lighter.
    It’s a good start.

    Thanks guys,

I have already used wp smush it to reduce the image size. Is it still worth trying bulk optimize or will that be ineffective after wp smush it?. Is there any other way to reduce the size of the home page images? should I try manually also the entire website is slow to load i.e the pages in the menu not just the homepage is this also because of the image sizes?
Thanks again for your help 🙂

Smush and EWWW will *not* reduce the image weight enough; you have to resample the images on your PC/Mac to a lower DPI and add them back to the theme/site. Then you can use Smush and EWWW.
